Job summary

Frazer‑Nash Consultancy seeks a Senior Nuclear Physics Consultant to lead reactor physics projects in the UK nuclear sector. You will develop models for cores and systems, support safety cases and advise on regulatory decisions, drawing on deep physics insight.

You will manage multiple projects, mentor colleagues, engage with clients directly, and help grow Frazer‑Nash’s capability in nuclear consultancy and engineering.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in supporting reactor core design/operations with lattice physics, neutron kinetics or neutron transport tools.
  • Ability to interpret, validate and clearly explain complex modelling outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain models of nuclear plant cores and systems using industry-standard codes.
  • Analyse fault sequences, transients, and system behaviours to inform design decisions and safety cases.
  • Provide authoritative interpretation of model results and underlying physical phenomena.
  • Lead a specialist capability area within Frazer-Nash and contribute to proposals and client engagement.
  • Communicate complex technical outputs clearly to clients, regulators and internal stakeholders.

Senior Nuclear Physics Consultant

Role: Senior Nuclear Physics Consultant

Salary range: £70,000 to £85,000 per annum depending on experience

Location: Bristol, Gloucester, Plymouth or Leatherhead

Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Developing and maintaining models of nuclear plant cores and systems using industry‑standard codes.
  • Analysing fault sequences, transients, and system behaviours to inform design decisions and nuclear safety cases.
  • Providing authoritative interpretation of model results and underlying physical phenomena.
  • Supporting model verification, validation, and best‑practice application.
  • Leading a specialist capability area within the company.
  • Communicating complex technical outputs clearly and concisely to clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
Technical Experience
What We’re Looking For:
  • Strong understanding of nuclear physics, and an area of expertise in reactor physics, neutron kinetics, criticality or shielding.
  • A degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in supporting reactor core design and/or operations, using relevant lattice physics, neutron kinetics, or neutron transport codes.
  • Experience of transient and fault analysis within nuclear safety contexts.
  • Ability to interpret, validate, and clearly explain complex modelling outputs.
Personal And Consultancy Skills
  • Ability to independently manage and deliver work to meet client requirements.
  • Experience in leading proposal writing, client engagement, and business development.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively through meetings, presentations, written reports, commercial bids, and technical discussions.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
