Job summary

Castle Environmental is seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer for the Ilkeston site in Derbyshire. This permanent, full-time night-shift role requires taking ownership of maintenance decisions and ensuring safe, continuous operation of plant during nights and weekends.

You will supervise a team on shift, coordinate contractors, and drive root-cause investigations while maintaining high health, safety and environmental standards. The role offers progression and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent engineering qualification.
• Strong mechanical and electrical multi-skilled experience.
• IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
• ILM or CMI Level 3 in First Line Management or equivalent supervisory experience.
• Experience with CMMS and maintenance management.
• Six to ten years' experience in maintenance engineering in industrial settings.
• Experience leading investigations into major plant failures.

Responsibilities

• Provide night-shift maintenance cover with no supervisor.
• Lead breakdown investigations and root cause reporting.
• Make critical decisions on plant operation, isolation and repair.
• Support operational teams with technical decisions.
• Direct and supervise other engineers and maintenance personnel on shift.
• Coordinate contractors outside normal hours and ensure permits are followed.
• Record maintenance activities in the CMMS and maintain safety standards.
• Review and improve maintenance schedules for reliability.
• Balance production needs with safety and compliance requirements.
