Responsibilities
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the network and its interconnections
  • Implement and support network monitoring tools and automation solutions to drive efficiency
  • Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues; perform root cause analysis and produce post-incident reviews
  • Validate and review network designs and proposed changes, ensuring scalability, performance, and resilience
  • Collaborate with the design authority on roadmap development and change management
  • Lead capacity planning to ensure infrastructure meets customer activation and service resilience demands
  • Act as a technical mentor, providing training, guidance, and knowledge sharing within the engineering team
  • Support vendor engagement, hardware/software procurement, and continuous network improvement projects
  • Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, diagrams, and operational procedures
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota, supporting incident response and field engineering teams
  • Deputise for the Network Operations Manager when required
  • Champion a customer-first approach, driving service excellence and continuous improvement
Required Skills
  • Strong customer focus and commitment to service quality
  • Proven experience within an ISP, altnet, or data centre environment
  • Deep technical expertise in network infrastructure, hardware, and software, including staging, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Solid understanding of optical Ethernet, IP transmission, and routing protocols (e.g. ISIS, BGP)
  • Good knowledge of FTTH optical fibre technologies and performance considerations
  • Familiarity with major network vendors and their platforms
  • Experience using automation tools to streamline operational processes
  • Ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Leadership and mentoring skills, with a track record of supporting engineering teams
  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to work independently when required
  • Desirable: CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE (or equivalent) certification
