Job summary

Spire Global is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to strengthen our on-site network infrastructure at antenna sites, connecting satellites, ground stations, and cloud workloads. You will design and operate L3 networking across satellite, ground, and cloud environments, with a focus on secure, scalable, and observable connectivity.

The role is hands-on, spanning routing, overlay networks, edge systems, and cloud connectivity, with a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office weekly.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with IP networking and routing (advanced level).
• Hands-on with BGP design, operation, troubleshooting; distance-vector protocols.
• Solid IP networking: routing, switching, TCP/IP, VLANs, NAT; Linux networking.
• Experience designing and operating VPNs and tunneling in distributed environments (WireGuard, StrongSwan, GRE/IPsec).
• Experience with AWS networking (VPC, TGW, Cloud WAN, VPN) and edge or hybrid networking.
• Understanding overlay vs underlay networking.
• Strong automation experience (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
• Interest in distributed systems and infrastructure engineering.
• Scripting ability in Python, Bash, or Go.
• Ability to debug complex distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design L3 network topology across satellite, ground, and cloud environments.
• Implement dynamic routing, route advertisement, filtering, and failover.
• Build secure multi-hop paths with encryption and SSH/firewall policies.
• Develop automation for deployment and configuration management (Terraform/Ansible).
• Align networking with satellite scheduling and improve observability.

Job description

We are building a next-generation network connecting satellites, ground stations, and cloud infrastructure This system must operate across dynamic, intermittent links and deliver data reliably into cloud-based workloads. We are looking for a NetworkEngineer**to strengthen the systems deployed directly at our antennas, a set of servers and network devices installed on-site to receive, demodulate, and transport satellite data to the cloud.

This is a hands‑on role working across routing, overlay networking, edge systems, and cloud connectivity.

Yourresponsibilities will include:

• Network Design & Architecture: Design L3 network topology across satellite, ground, and cloud environments,define IP addressing schemes, segmentation, and routing domainsand model connectivity patterns and failure scenarios.
• Routing & Connectivity: implement and operate dynamic routing,design route advertisement, filtering, failover strategiesandhandle intermittent and flapping connectivity.
• Overlay & Secure Networking: build secure multi-hop paths,ensure encryption, isolation, and performance.Implement secure tunnel configurations(WireGuard/ IPsec).Define and enforceSSH access policies,firewall rules and least-privilege communication.
• Automation & Infrastructure: develop automation usingTerraform/Ansible.Support scalable rollout and configuration management.
• Operational Integration: Align networking behavior with satellite scheduling and design safe state transitions and failover scenario. Improve observability.

Qualifications:

We’re looking for SeniorNetworkEngineer with solid technical fundamentals and the drive to learn quicklyworking acrossarchitecture, implementation and troubleshootingwith strong ownership and problem‑solving mindset.

Required Skills:

• Strong experience with IP networking and routing (advanced level)
• Hands‑on experience with BGP (design, operation, troubleshooting)and distance vector protocols.
• Solid understanding of IP networking (routing, switching, TCP/IP, VLANs, MTU, complex NAT)andof Linux networking.
• Experience designing and operating VPNs and tunnelling technologies in complex, distributed environments (WireGuard,StrongSwan, GRE + IPsec)
• Experience withAWS networking (VPC, TGW, Cloud WAN, VPN)and edge or hybrid networking environments.
• Understanding of overlay vs underlay networking.
• Very strong experience with automation (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
• Strong interest in distributed systems, connectivity, or infrastructure engineering.
• Ability to script or code inPython, Bash, or Go.
• Ability to debug complex distributed systems.

Nice to have

• Exposure to satellite, telecom, or RF systems (non-essential)
• Experience with hardware operations, rack installation, or cable management.
• Familiarity with AWS or any cloud environment.

Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three days per week in the office.
