Job summary

Peregrine is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to design, implement and support network infrastructure for clients in London/Leeds. The role involves ensuring high availability of core network, firewall, load balancing and connectivity services in a hybrid working model.

The ideal candidate will have active SC clearance or eligibility, CCNP or equivalent, and hands‑on experience with Cisco Nexus, UCS and enterprise firewall technologies.

Qualifications

• Active SC clearance or eligible.
• Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent.
• Experience with Cisco Nexus switching and UCS platforms.
• Experience with enterprise firewall technologies, ideally Check Point VSX.
• Strong routing and switching knowledge; network security focus.
• Experience developing automated testing/validation for infrastructure changes.
• Experience using automation tools like Python, Ansible, Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Work with Network, Security, Compute and Platform teams to support service delivery and changes.
• Advise on IaC, automation and automated testing to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Maintain and enhance Cisco Nexus, routing, switching and firewall platforms.
• Investigate incidents, drive RCA and continuous service improvement.
• Support infrastructure projects and technology refresh programmes.

Senior Network Engineer

The role:

The Senior Network Engineer will provide hands‑on technical expertise across our client’s network infrastructure estate, supporting the operation, maintenance and enhancement of critical network, firewall, load balancing and connectivity services.

The Senior Network Engineer is a technical delivery role suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys working collaboratively to support and improve critical infrastructure services.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Network, Security, Compute and Platform Engineering teams, supporting operational service delivery, project implementation, major incident resolution and technology lifecycle activities.
• Help drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation and automated testing capabilities to improve service reliability, resilience and operational efficiency.
• Support the day‑to‑day operation of network infrastructure and associated services including maintaining and enhancing Cisco switching, routing, firewall and load balancing platforms.
• Investigate and resolve complex incidents, problems and service requests in collaboration with colleagues, suppliers and technology partners and contribute to root cause analysis and continuous service improvement activities.
• Support infrastructure projects, maintenance activities and technology refresh programmes and participate in major incident and service recovery activities.
• Build effective working relationships across Technology teams, suppliers and service partners., providing clear and effective communication during incidents, changes and service reviews.
• Deliver a high standard of customer service and stakeholder engagement.

Skills & Experience:

• Strong experience in network engineering, with the ability to support and improve business-critical network services.
• Current holds active SC clearance or is SC clearance eligible
• Cisco CCNP certification or equivalent practical industry experience.
• Experience supporting Cisco Nexus switching, Cisco UCS platforms, enterprise firewall technologies, ideally including Check Point VSX environments.
• Strong understanding of routing, switching, network security and infrastructure operations.
• Experience developing automated testing and validation solutions for infrastructure changes alongside dedicated testing or quality assurance teams to implement automated testing capabilities.
• Experience using automation technologies such as Python, Ansible, Terraform or equivalent tools.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and modern infrastructure management practices.
• Experience working within operational environments where service availability and stability are critical.

Desirable skills:

• Experience within Financial Services or another highly regulated environment.
• Experience supporting Azure and/or AWS networking services.
• Experience with software‑defined networking technologies.
• Experience with network security automation and policy management.
• Broad understanding of adjacent infrastructure technologies including compute, storage, virtualisation and security.
