Synthesia is seeking a Principal Engineer for the ML Platform to own and evolve the systems that train, serve, and deploy generative models. You will shape architecture, lead reliability improvements, and build tooling to run workloads efficiently at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience building or operating production systems with emphasis on reliability and scalability.
• Systems mindset focusing on bottlenecks, interfaces, and long-term operability.
• Hands-on with cloud infrastructure, Linux, and automation.
• Kubernetes experience and running distributed workloads in production.
• Strong Python or similar backend languages for tooling.
• Ability to balance automation with reliable human control.
• Experience building internal platforms or developer tooling.
• Comfort in ambiguity and ownership of open-ended technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Design and improve platform systems for model training, evaluation, and production serving.
• Build infrastructure and tooling to enhance reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
• Develop internal tools and workflows operable by humans and agents.
• Shape deployment architectures across research and product environments.
• Improve scheduling, monitoring, and debugging of GPU and cloud workloads.
• Create abstractions and agentic systems to reduce operational overhead.
• Drive observability, automation, reliability, and developer experience.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate pain points into capabilities.
• Contribute to technical direction and pragmatic architectural tradeoffs as the platform grows.
