Job summary

TÜV Rheinland Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist to join its Asset Integrity Management team in Derby. You will lead metallurgical failure investigations, mentor junior staff, and produce high-quality technical reports for clients in power and energy sectors.

The role requires a degree in metallurgy or related discipline and at least 5 years of industrial failure analysis experience, with excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Qualifications

• Ferrous metallurgy, failure analysis and root cause investigation.
• High temperature degradation mechanisms incl. creep and corrosion in biomass/energy-from-waste boilers is advantageous.
• Power plant background preferred; petro-chem/oil & gas experience may be considered.
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver metallurgical failure examinations with laboratory work and formal reporting.
• Schedule, prioritise failures arriving at UK operations.
• Mentor and develop less experienced investigators.
• Produce formal reports and other project deliverables on time and to budget.
• Create proposals and tender documents, and develop new business.
• Develop relationships with clients and manage large, project-based investigations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of standards and good practice.
• Occasional travel within UK and abroad as required.
