Job summary

Pertemps Southampton is seeking an experienced Mechanical Manager in Southampton. You will lead a mechanical team across workshop, site and project activities, overseeing maintenance, repair, fabrication, installation and modification works to ensure safety, quality and commercial delivery.

The role requires strong leadership, estimating and project management skills, with substantial client liaison and a proactive approach to development of the mechanical team and wider business.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' relevant experience within mechanical engineering, marine, ship repair, maintenance or heavy engineering.
• Experience in a supervisory or management position.
• Strong estimating, quotation and project costing experience.
• Good commercial awareness of labour, materials, plant and subcontractor costs.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, diagrams, specifications and technical information.

Responsibilities

• Leading, managing and supporting the mechanical team across workshop, site and project activities.
• Planning and overseeing mechanical maintenance, repair, overhaul, installation and modification works.
• Preparing and reviewing estimates, quotations and project costings.
• Reviewing client enquiries, technical specifications, drawings and scopes of work.
• Identifying project requirements, risks, assumptions, exclusions and opportunities.
• Supporting operational planning, labour allocation and programme development.
• Monitoring projects against budgets, programmes and quality standards.
• Liaising with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, project managers and internal teams.
• Supporting business development and maintaining strong client relationships.
• Ensuring all work follows RAMS, permits and health and safety requirements.
