A leading engineering consultancy in the water and wastewater sector is looking to recruit a self‑motivated and highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong analytical abilities and extensive experience in technical design, delivery, and management of water and wastewater engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to feasibility, outline, and detailed design projects, focusing on mechanical installations in municipal water and wastewater treatment plants.
  • Design mechanical systems such as pumping stations, ventilation systems, penstocks, valves, chemical dosing systems, and associated pipework.
  • Interact with clients and collaborators during the design and planning stages, providing technical input and ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Conduct site surveys and engage with clients, contractors, government authorities, and suppliers to support project development.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines internally and externally to confirm and refine design specifications.
  • Support bidding efforts and actively contribute to winning new projects.
  • Manage and deliver projects within the agreed budget, timeline, and quality standards.
  • Take ownership of specific technical areas or activities and contribute to the development of engineering specifications and procedures.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and acting as a resource within the team.
  • Promote innovation by trialing new methods and staying inquisitive about emerging industry trends.
  • Present project work at company meetings or industry conferences.
  • Work with and contribute to the development of digital tools and engineering products.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree‑qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in the UK water and wastewater industry, including technical design and project delivery.
  • Strong leadership and technical expertise, with the ability to manage and mentor teams and individuals.
  • Proven ability to oversee projects that may span multiple disciplines and locations.
  • A proactive attitude towards personal development and team building, including the mentoring of junior engineers.
  • A developing external profile and a desire to enhance both personal and company reputations within the industry.
  • Strong commitment to contributing to technical knowledge networks and driving innovation.
  • Experience in water and wastewater treatment projects across all stages: feasibility, outline design, detailed design, and construction support.
  • Familiarity with 3D design tools and other proprietary engineering software.
  • Chartered membership with a recognised engineering institution.
