A leading recruitment agency is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile Aerospace & Defence programme in Basildon. This role involves delivering high-quality mechanical designs and supporting the development of advanced missile seeker systems, requiring expertise in electro-mechanical design and PTC Creo. The position offers a hybrid working model and is a temporary contract until March 2026 with possible extension.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Technical discipline.
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical or EO product design.
  • Proficient in PTC Creo 3D CAD.

Overview

An excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a high-profile Aerospace & Defence programme, supporting the development of next-generation Missile Seeker systems. You'll contribute to the design and delivery of advanced electro-mechanical products within a multi-disciplinary engineering team.

Location: Basildon (Hybrid - ~4 days on-site) • Rate: £70.00 per hour • Hours: 37 Hours per week • Security Clearance: SC Cleared (Sole UK National) • Contract Type: Temporary contract until March 2026 with possibility of extension

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality mechanical design solutions to technical and international standards.
  • Conduct detailed design work including calculations, tolerance studies, and drawing generation (BS8888 / GD&T).
  • Create and maintain BoMs using Teamcenter PLM.
  • Support design reviews and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of solutions.
  • Apply DfX principles across manufacturing, assembly, and testing stages.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical/Technical discipline.
  • Strong background in electro-mechanical or EO product design.
  • Proficient in PTC Creo 3D CAD.
  • Experience with structural design, electrical grounding, and materials selection.
  • Knowledge of jigs, fixtures, tooling, and cable harness design.
  • Experience in Aerospace or Defence environments essential.
  • Desirable: First-pass thermal analysis capability.
  • Security Clearance: SC Cleared (Sole UK National)
