We’re searching for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an innovative client at the forefront of automation and robotics. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer who loves solving complex problems, leading design projects, and seeing their ideas come to life in real-world applications.

The role is based in Reading and offers a salary of £60k–£70k depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the design and development of automated mechanical systems and high-speed material handling modules
  • Troubleshooting and improving existing systems to maximise performance and reliability
  • Designing innovative mechanisms for precision, ruggedised, 24/7 operation
  • Collaborating with electronics, software and process engineers to deliver seamless system integration
  • Mentoring junior engineers and helping shape the technical culture of the team

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering (2:1 or above) or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience designing automation and robotic handling systems for small or high-volume components
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks (or similar CAD software)
  • Experience in high-speed automated transfer systems, precision engineering, or production machinery design
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset with the ability to deliver functional solutions quickly

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience with fluid mechanics (pumps, valves, spraying systems)
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping and manufacturing methods (CNC machining, injection moulding, 3D printing)
  • Experience with stepper/servo motors and automated material handling systems
  • Background in regulated industries such as food, pharma, or medical devices
  • Leadership or project management experience
