Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of water and wastewater infrastructure in the UK. You will work across outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover, coordinating with electrical, civil, geotech and process designers.

You will guide the team from concept through to commissioning, ensuring safe, practical, and compliant solutions while mentoring junior engineers and maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Chartered or Incorporated member of a relevant professional body is expected.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to sites within the region.

Responsibilities

Northumbrian Water supplies water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people and has worked closely with MMB and JN Bentley since 2001.In this time, the companies have delivered hundreds of engineering and construction projects together. This new contract will extend the relationship to at least 2030 and see MMB – which harnesses the contracting strength of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald - undertake treatment projects across theNorth East.

As aSeniorMechanicalEngineeryou will contribute to projects that significantlyimpactour environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated.You’llwork on projects that make a real difference to our environment and our communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the mechanical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all mechanical aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.

The role of a Senior Mechanical Engineer includes:

Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover, including, but not limited to, P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, defining safe access and lifting arrangements, above ground pipework layouts, etc.

Coordinate with the project teamcomprisingof Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers and ensure designs are completed onprogramme, within budget, and to the quality defined by framework specifications

Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient,practicaland safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond

Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims

Supporting the development of the mechanical engineering team, coaching and mentoring engineers to develop their skill set and identifyingthe correct resource for the projects

Whatyou’llneed:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Chartered or incorporated member of professional institutione.gICE, IMechE,etc,orequivalentexperience

Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders

Methodical approach to problem solving

A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region

Water/wastewater experience required
