Job description

Abatec is recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to help deliver a major programme or water and wastewater projects across South West Water. You'll be joining a collaborative design and build team working on long-term AMP8 investment framework, with the potential to extend into AMP9.

If you're motivated by projects that make a real difference, you'll enjoy the impact this role offers. From improving treatment performance to boosting environmental resilience, you'll help shape mechanical engineering solutions from concept design all the way through to commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects from outline design through to commissioning and handover
  • Coordinate mechanical design with electrical, civil, geotechnical and process teams, ensuring outputs meet programme, budget and quality requirements
  • Develop key mechanical deliverables including P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, access and lifting arrangements, and above-ground pipework layouts
  • Support and mentor mechanical engineers within the team, helping to develop capability and allocate the right resource to the right projects
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar position on water or wastewater projects
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered or Incorporated membership of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., IMechE, ICE) or equivalent experience
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the operational region
