Job description

NES Fircroft are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Client's dynamic team at the Wytch Farm oilfield near Corfe Castle, Wareham, Dorset. This is an initial 12 month contract with the scope to become longer term for the right individual. Mon‑Fri working on site.

This position has responsibility to perform senior mechanical and integrity engineering duties for static equipment, to uphold and advise on appropriate standards and actions to ensure that integrity risks are transparently managed to the lowest reasonably practicable level. A strong focus on regulatory compliance (PSSR, PSR, COMAH) and maintaining effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders form an essential part of this role.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Safety Ownership
    • Understand and apply the nine Life Saving Rules to protect self and others.
    • Promote conversations on safety, environment and risk within all lifecycle activities.
  • Senior Asset Engineering
    • Approval of piping isometrics for construction.
    • Approval of purchase specifications (valves, materials, ratings).
    • Approval of quality packs for fabrications (review, document).
    • Preparation of technical specifications for new static equipment.
    • Review of 'management of change' (MOC) proposals that may impact on asset integrity.
  • Integrity Management
    • Sharing and escalating of asset risk at appropriate forums.
    • Perform code‑compliant calculations and review of third‑party reports / analyses.
    • Maintaining pipeline risk assessments and preparation of annual integrity reviews.
    • Preparation of integrity KPIs (monthly).
    • Remote interrogation of cathodic protection system (weekly).
    • Review and challenge of vendor reports and recommendations and follow up actions.
    • Review and revision of controlled engineering standards.
  • Corrosion Management
    • Enact defined responsibilities in accordance with site corrosion management strategy.
    • Maintain a working understanding of corrosion mechanisms applicable to the asset.
    • Actively contribute to corrosion risk assessments (CRAs).
    • Review and approval of risk‑based assessments (RBAs) for asset inspections.
    • Endorse corrosion under insulation (CUI) inspection plan to good industry practice.
    • Investigate corrosion failures / events and apply lessons learned.
    • Interrogate and approve repair methods to resolve corrosion findings.
    • Identify trends, changes or correlations for inspection findings that could impact on asset integrity and considering the suitability of KPIs.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
  • A Mechanical Engineering BEng/MEng degree is essential.
  • Chartered Engineer CEng or actively working towards professional membership – desirable.
  • API / EEMUA certifications – desirable.
  • We are ideally looking for someone with a minimum of 8 years evidenced senior mechanicalengineering experience within the oil and gas industry, but are also open to candidates with a minimum of 5 years relevant engineering experience within a related industry.
  • A working knowledge of UK onshore safety legislative environment and applicable codes and standards for pressure equipment and pipelines.
  • Team player, clear written and verbal communicator with the ability to build relationships quickly with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Rigorous attention to detail in a high‑hazard potential environment.
  • Self‑motivated and a solutions‑focused mindset with clear ownership of duties.
  • Ideally a technical mentor to other members of the engineering team.
  • Valid UK driving license.
