Overview

A leading engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team and deliver high–quality engineering design services across complex water industry projects. This role involves coordinating multi–disciplinary designs, ensuring cost–effective solutions, and adhering to health and safety standards, while mentoring staff and contributing to the development of department processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and produce design layouts that are cost–effective, meet specifications, and can be efficiently constructed and commissioned, considering all associated costs (design, materials, erection, and interdisciplinary impacts).
  • Ensure the application of standard practices and maintain competitiveness in design solutions.
  • Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
  • Work within established procedures to help develop and review departmental processes, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Coordinate designs across all disciplines to ensure cohesive project delivery.
  • Maintain records throughout the contract lifecycle and ensure customer satisfaction through quality delivery.
  • Support the development and supervision of staff, promoting a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Consider environmental and health and safety issues in all designs.
Essential
  • Significant experience in delivering process plant systems within the water industry.
  • Understanding of water and sewage treatment processes.
  • Experience in managing/mentoring staff in relevant design disciplines.
  • Membership (or nearing membership) of a professional institution.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (HND or degree in a related discipline).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Ability to analyse and present technical proposals clearly.
  • Proficient in computer software and tools, and holds a valid driving license.
Desirable
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Master s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with digital design in design and construct projects.
