Job description

MMP Consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer on behalf of an NHS Trust based in Northwest London. This is a temporary ongoing position with an hourly rate of 40ph via an umbrella company over a 37.5 hour working week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day–to–day management of the Hard FM service, including planned and reactive maintenance, sustainability and energy initiatives, compliance, health and safety, and backlog maintenance. They will play a key role in ensuring that the Trust's estate remains safe, efficient and compliant with all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional leadership for mechanical and engineering services across all Trust sites.
  • Lead on operational management of the Hard FM function, ensuring all engineering services are safe, efficient and compliant.
  • Support and deputise for the Deputy Head of Estates as required.
  • Manage, motivate and develop the Estates maintenance teams to deliver high–quality, customer–focused services.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies and management plans for key estates systems including: Water safety, Ventilation and air quality, Medical gases, Electrical safety (LV/HV, Pressure systems and lifts. Asbestos and contractor management
  • Lead on statutory compliance, health and safety, and business continuity for Estates operations.
  • Oversee estate audits, surveys and ERIC data submissions.
  • Manage budgets and ensure effective procurement, financial control and value for money.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust's Estates Strategy and related capital and improvement programmes.
  • Provide technical advice and leadership on complex estates issues to senior colleagues and clinical teams.
Requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant mechanical or building services engineering discipline
  • Professional membership of a recognised engineering body (e.g. IMechE, CIBSE, IHEEM or equivalent)
  • Extensive knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), Health Building Notes (HBNs), and relevant legislation
  • Experience managing engineering and maintenance services in a large, multi–site organisation
  • Strong understanding of health and safety, compliance, and risk management in estates operations
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Strong budget management and project delivery experience
  • Authorised Person (AP) qualifications (e.g. LV, HV, medical gases, confined spaces, etc.)
  • Experience working within an NHS or healthcare environment
