Contract Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Location: North West (Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in the office)

Contract Length: 12 months (with strong likelihood of extension)

Rate: £50 per hour (Outside IR35)

Hours: 4-day week (Monday to Thursday, 10-hour days)

We're looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a growing team delivering complex, safety-critical projects in the nuclear sector. This role is ideal for someone looking to step into a technically engaging position with strong long-term prospects and a supportive working environment.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality mechanical design work in accordance with nuclear and project-specific standards.
  • Produce and review engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, and drawings.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation and standards, including CE marking and the Machinery Directive.
  • Support and contribute to design reviews, HAZOPs, and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure effective technical delivery.
  • Work across all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept to detailed design.
Ideal Candidate
  • Solid background in mechanical engineering within the nuclear sector.
  • Experience in the design of safety-critical mechanical systems - glovebox experience is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Inventor and/or SolidWorks for 3D modelling and detailed design.
  • Familiar with CE marking, the Machinery Directive, and relevant compliance processes.
  • Familiar with nuclear regulatory standards and procedures (e.g., AWE, Sellafield).
  • Strong communicator with good problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Security Clearance (SC) is highly advantageous.
