Job summary

Siemens in Congleton, UK, is recruiting a Senior Product Development Engineer (Mechanical) to join our R&D team. You will design mechanical solutions for industrial power electronics and create injection moulded, sheet metal and die-cast components throughout the product lifecycle.

You will collaborate across electronics, software, and manufacturing, perform validation and verification, and ensure manufacturability and cost targets. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience delivering full lifecycle development from concept through to launch.
• Experience designing injected moulded plastic components.
• Experience designing metal components (sheet metal or die-cast).
• Strong 3D CAD design skills.
• Experience with thermal design considerations.
• Understanding of design validation, testing and product approvals.
• Experience designing for high-volume manufacture and cost targets.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate creative engineering solutions.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical solutions for industrial power electronics products.
• Create innovative designs for injection moulded plastic, sheet metal and die-cast components.
• Work through the full product development lifecycle from concept to launch and ongoing improvement.
• Collaborate with electronics, software, manufacturing and test engineers to deliver high-quality products.
• Perform product integration, validation and design verification activities using testing and simulation techniques.
• Ensure designs are optimised for high-volume manufacture, cost and quality.
• Support product approvals, certification and compliance activities.
• Introduce new products and design changes into global manufacturing operations.
• Support product improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
• Coach and support less-experienced engineers within the team.
