Job summary

RED Engineering Design is expanding its London or Bicester team. The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will lead medium-sized mechanical projects, develop design packages, and coordinate services for building projects with clients and contractors.

Ideal candidates hold an engineering degree and are working towards Chartered status, with strong understanding of BS standards and health and safety. Hybrid working is offered in a global consultancy setting.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree with solid design and project delivery experience.
• Knowledge of building services engineering and applicable standards.
• Experience in client-facing project coordination and multi-discipline interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multiple medium-sized mechanical design projects.
• Develop and specify control systems and building services installations.
• Conduct site surveys, tests, and reports on electrical/mechanical systems.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and client requirements.
• Provide technical direction to trainees and junior engineers.
• Represent the company in technical meetings with clients and contractors.

We are now seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our London or Bicester office. You will have the ability to run multiple concurrent medium sized projects, undertake a client facing role in the development, design and coordination of engineering projects, which could include producing design packages for contractors working on a design and build contract. Responsible for running of medium size projects. Undertakes a client facing role in the development and design and coordination of engineering project services for electrical installations, systems, equipment, facilities etc.

Role Responsibilities

• Responsible for running of medium size projects. Undertakes a client facing role in the development and design and coordination of engineering project services for Mechanical installations, systems, equipment, facilities etc.
• Develops and specifies applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for all building engineering services purposes
• Surveys tests and reports on existing electrical installations
• Specifies activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing confirm to functional specifications and customer requirements
• Day to day decision making on project progress and direct liaison with and provides advice to client
• Represents Company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams and contractors teams
• Carries out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards
• Responsible for technical content and accuracy of Trainee, Graduates and Engineers
• Validation and checking of designs and specifications

Role Requirements

You will need to possess the following professional and technical expertise:

• BEng, MSc, and have sufficient experience
• MCIBSE/MIEE or HNC/HND + appropriate experience or equivalent
• Working towards Chartered Eng status
• Competent in specification design/drawing for several building types
• Sound knowledge of key Health and Safety issues and legislation
• Knowledge of MS Office applications word, excel etc
• Ability to use IT based calculation and spreadsheet software
• Good understanding of BS standards
• Ability to prioritise own workloadAbility to work to deadlines
• Managerial Skills
• Background in consulting or construction preferred.
• Good understanding of international working and business operations of a global consultancy.
• Act in an ethical manner and follow the principles of the Ethics Charter and Ethics in Practice Guidelines of the Group
