Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Advanced Mechanisms

Location: Birchwood Park, Warrington

Salary: £48,000 - £55,000+ DOE + Benefits

A highly respected engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead design and R&D activities on bespoke, high-precision mechanisms used in demanding applications including vacuum and high-reliability environments.

You’ll be joining a compact, highly skilled team working across design, analysis, assembly, and validation. This is a hands‑on and varied role with clear scope for ownership and progression.

In This Role you will:
  • Take ownership of mechanical design and development projects
  • Carry out CAD and FEA (thermal and structural) design work
  • Work closely with lab‑based teams on testing, troubleshooting and validation
  • Lead work packages or small projects from proposal to delivery
  • Mentor junior team members and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
You Should Have:
  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or closely related Engineering discipline
  • 5+ years’ experience in design engineering (preferably in R&D or technical consultancy)Proficiency in SolidWorks (or similar) and mechanical analysis techniques
  • Hands‑on engineering mindset and ability to work across concept, test, and delivery
  • Strong communication, documentation and reporting skills
Nice to Have:
  • Background in tribology, vacuum, or high‑reliability mechanism design
  • Familiarity with test rigs, cleanroom protocols, or mechatronic systems
  • Experience with tools such as NASTRAN, MATLAB, Simulink or ESATAN
  • Prior exposure to aerospace, space, or precision engineering sectors
