Job summary

Oakmont Consulting is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its CleanTech R&D team in the UK. You will own mechanical design across new and existing products, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team from concept through to production.

You’ll perform DFX, run FEA analyses, manage BOMs, conduct risk assessments, test prototypes, and coordinate supplier interactions to deliver robust assemblies and on-time deliverables.

Qualifications

• 4+ years' mechanical design experience within an SME manufacturing/production environment.
• Full lifecycle development experience, from concept through to production.
• FEA experience.
• 2:1 or above in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Design for manufacture, including selecting materials and manufacturing methods for new products.
• Engineering analysis including stress/strain calculations using FEA software.
• Creating and maintaining BOMs and parts lists.
• Risk assessment and failure mode/effects analysis.
• Testing and problem-solving on development projects and live production.
• Managing relationships with sub-contract suppliers for bespoke assemblies.
• Project management of assigned work packages.

You'll take ownership of mechanical design across new and existing products, working closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team from concept through to production.

What you'll be doing:

• Design for manufacture, including selecting materials and manufacturing methods for new products
• Engineering analysis including stress/strain calculations using FEA software
• Creating and maintaining BOMs and parts lists
• Risk assessment and failure mode/effects analysis
• Testing and problem-solving on development projects and live production
• Managing relationships with sub-contract suppliers for bespoke assemblies
• Project management of assigned work packages

What you'll need:

• 4+ years' mechanical design experience within an SME manufacturing/production environment

• Strong 3D and 2D CAD skills (Solidworks preferred)
• Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes
