Job summary

COWI is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the delivery of mechanical infrastructure designs across UK infrastructure projects, including highways, rail, aviation and data centres. You will oversee design delivery, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and ensure compliance with standards.

You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to project planning, and liaise with clients and regulators. A degree in Mechanical Engineering and Chartered Engineer status (or in progress) are

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer designation or working towards it.
• Deep knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, smoke control, ventilation, CHW, LTHW and refrigerant systems.
• Experience across feasibility to detailed design and construction support.
• Solid knowledge of British Standards and Building Regulations.
• Rail standards knowledge and delivery experience on major infra projects.
• Familiarity with IES software.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across projects.
• Developing and reviewing mechanical designs, calculations, specs, reports and technical docs.
• Coordinating with civil, structural, architectural, electrical, fire and systems engineers.
• Managing interfaces with clients, contractors, stakeholders and regulators.
• Ensuring compliance with standards, codes and project requirements (Network Rail, HS2, TfL, BSI, Building Regulations).
• Supporting design reviews, risk management and assurance processes.
• Mentoring junior engineers and technicians.
• Contributing to project planning, programme management and resource forecasting.

To further our mechanical capability, we are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the delivery of complex and high-profile projects across a range of subsectors, including highways, rail, aviation, data centres and buildings within infrastructure.

While our portfolio has a clear focus on major infrastructure projects, we are looking for individuals who bring broad mechanical engineering services expertise and are eager to work on diverse, multidisciplinary projects that shape the built environment.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Overseeing the design and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across a variety of projects.
• Developing and review mechanical designs, calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, architectural, electrical, fire, and systems engineers.
• Managing interfaces with clients, contractors, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
• Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes, and project requirements, including Network Rail, HS2, TfL, British Standards, and Building Regulations where applicable.
• Supporting design reviews, technical assurance processes, and risk management activities.
• Mentoring and support junior engineers and technicians.
• Contribute to project planning, programme management, and resource forecasting.

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Achieved Chartered Engineer (CEng) or be working towards it
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, smoke control, natural ventilation, CHW, LTHW and refrigerant-based systems
• Experience working through all project stages from feasibility and concept design to detailed design and construction support
• Solid knowledge of British Standards and Building Regulations
• Knowledge of rail standards and experience delivering mechanical engineering designs for major infrastructure projects
• Good knowledge of IES software
