Senior Mechanical Design Engineer—Role Overview
At Oxford Instruments Andor, we accelerate scientific advances through high‑performance imaging solutions. We seek a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design and detailing of high‑precision parts, sub‑assemblies, and customer solutions for our Imaging & Analysis product line.
Responsibilities
The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will:
- Design and detail mechanical components to tight tolerances for precision applications.
- Conduct tolerance and vibration/thermal analyses to support long‑term stability.
- Ensure designs meet regulatory requirements (EMC, Medical Device, Safety, LVD).
- Implement DfX best practices to optimize manufacturability and reliability.
- Build prototypes, evaluate performance, and iterate designs.
- Document designs with detailed assembly instructions, maintain revision control of drawings and documents, and develop cost estimates.
Qualifications
- BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. iMechE IEng accreditation a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of product‑development experience in mechanical engineering.
- Proven experience in:
- Design of precise, tight‑tolerance mechanisms.
- Tolerance analysis and design for long‑term stability (vibration, thermal).
- Design for regulatory approval (EMC, Medical Device, Safety, LVD).
- DfX implementation.
- Prototype build and assessment.
- Documenting designs with revisions and cost estimation.
