Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two Senior Maternity Support Workers to join the Central Delivery Suite at St Michael's Hospital. These fixed-term roles are full-time (37.5 hours per week) and until March 2027, supporting the multidisciplinary team and caring for women, birthing people, and newborns.

You will work across shifts including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays, with a commitment to compassionate care and professional development in a supportive environment.

Job overview

St Michael's Hospital has an exciting opportunity to recruit two Senior Maternity Support Workers (MSW) to join our Central Delivery Suite. This will involve supporting the multidisciplinary team to care for women and birthing people as well as families and their newborn babies. Working on Central Delivery Suite will also involve working alongside the theatre team supporting elective and emergency procedures.

These positions are full time and fixed term until the end of March 2027.

Main duties of the job

A Senior Maternity Support Worker (MSW) is a core member of the team delivering direct care to patients and supporting registered practitioners to deliver high quality, compassionate health care to people in accordance with assessed needs and a care plan.

You will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare, or therapeutic tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner, in accordance with the Trust values.

There will be opportunities to develop your knowledge and skills, specific to your needs. Training will be provided to ensure you have the required core skills and skills set specific to your area of work. You will also be supported to obtain your care certificate if you do not have this qualification.

Qualifications and Training

• Completion of Care Certificate

• Level 3 senior healthcare support worker apprenticeship with bridging programme which includes training packages with appropriate maternity focus or equivalent level 3 qualification or Recognition of prior experiential learning as per trust guidance

• Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard Maternal Observations, Neonatal Observations, venepuncture, Neonatal blood via heel prick, ECG
