Job description
Overview

As a Senior Maternity Care Assistant, you will provide clinical and non-clinical support to the multi-disciplinary team under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional. You will deliver direct and indirect care for service users as delegated under the direction and supervision of an appropriate Registered Health Care Professional or by the multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of effective healthcare to service users. You will work across all areas of the maternity services, which includes postnatal and antenatal wards, labour wards, maternity theatres and assessment units. This role covers a 24 hour service, where it is expected that you will work a combination of day shifts, night shifts, weekends and bank holidays. We are a workplace which supports flexible working to accommodate individual needs alongside the needs of the service.

The main duties of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • The cleaning, tidying and re-stocking of all store rooms, clinical rooms and areas
  • Responding promptly to service user needs, including answering questions and call buzzers, and escalating any concerns immediately to a registered midwife
  • Adult and neonatal observations (e.g. using equipment to measure blood pressure, pulse and temperature)
  • Infant feeding support
  • Providing assistance to members of the multi-disciplinary team during emergency situations
  • Providing assistance to members of the multi-disciplinary team during vaginal and caesarean births, including in the maternity theatres
  • Supporting housekeepers and catering with ordering and delivery of food and drinks and maintaining cleanliness of kitchen areas

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all
  • being a great place to work
  • partnerships for impact
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate
  • we are proud
  • we are inclusive
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
