Overview

Senior Marine Engineer – Location: Portsmouth (occasional UK and overseas travel).

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Marine Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy, supporting projects across the marine, offshore, defence, and renewable sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver marine engineering consultancy projects from concept through to completion
  • Engage with clients to interpret requirements and develop suitable engineering solutions
  • Prepare and review machinery and systems layouts, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Oversee and monitor ship repairs, conversions, and new builds to ensure compliance with specifications and standards
  • Conduct plan reviews, inspections, and testing of machinery and systems
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers
Skills and Experience
  • Essential:
    • Approximately 10 years\' experience in the marine or shipping industry
    • Proven track record in marine design, consultancy, or shipyard environments
    • Strong knowledge of ship design principles, marine systems, and shipyard practices
    • Familiarity with Classification Society, IMO, and other regulatory requirements
    • Qualified in Marine or Mechanical Engineering (Degree/HND) or Merchant Navy Second Engineer Unlimited Certificate of Competency (or Royal Navy equivalent)
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in ship surveys, new build, or conversion projects
    • Previous consultancy experience
    • Chartered Engineer status or Chief Engineer Unlimited CoC (or Royal Navy equivalent)
