A financial institution in Enniskillen is seeking an experienced UNIX/Linux Administrator to lead a team ensuring optimal performance of UNIX, Linux, middleware, and database systems. The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of relevant experience, strong leadership skills, and a background in databases such as Oracle RAC and DB2. This role requires excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with leadership in driving IT strategy and operations.

Qualifications

Job Purpose

Leading a team of UNIX/Linux, middleware system and database administrators, ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of UNIX, Linux, middleware and database systems within the bank. Additionally, the job incumbent will need to collaborate with other IT teams to support business operations, maintain detailed records of system performance, and provide technical guidance to optimize the use of UNIX, Linux and middleware resources.

Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
  • Proven experience leading teams of UNIX/Linux system and database administrators.
  • Strong ability to ensure stable, secure, and efficient operations across UNIX and database environments.
  • Experience contributing to annual budget planning for infrastructure and services.
Database Administration
  • Hands‑on experience managing enterprise databases such as Oracle RAC, DB2, MSSQL.
  • Skilled in database provisioning, configuration, performance tuning, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Proficient in implementing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
UNIX System Administration
  • Solid experience administering UNIX/Linux servers, including AIX, Solaris, and Red Hat.
  • Capable of overseeing server provisioning, configuration, and performance optimization.
System Monitoring & Capacity Planning
  • Familiarity with SNMP messaging setup for system monitoring integration.
  • Ability to prepare annual capacity planning reports, including system utilization trends and growth projections.
Governance & Reporting

Strong documentation skills for audit and compliance purposes.

  • Experience conducting System Acceptance Testing (SAT) and user account reviews on a semi‑annual basis.
  • Capable of generating and delivering system performance reports.
  • Able to oversee routine operational tasks to ensure timely completion.
Disaster Recovery & Resilience
  • Experience setting up and maintaining system backup jobs to ensure data protection and recoverability.
  • Skilled in preparing and maintaining disaster recovery failover procedures.
  • Able to activate and support DR systems during annual drills.
Incident & Problem Management
  • Proven ability to lead incident resolution efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and implement preventive and corrective actions.
Project & Change Management
  • Experience coordinating infrastructure changes related to network deployments or upgrades.
  • Capable of liaising with vendors for procurement, installation, and support of hardware and software.
Requirements
Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Formal training or certifications in AIX, Solaris, RedHat Linux administration are highly valued.
  • Candidate possess Technical Certifications such as IBM Certified System Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional, Redhat Certified System Administrator is desirable.
Work Experience
  • 8+ years of experience as a UNIX/Linux Administrator and/or Database Administrator or in a similar focused role
Technical Skills
  • Hands‑on experience in AIX, Solaris, Redhat linux administration, and database administration, including Oracle RAC, DB2, MSSQL
  • Proven experience in managing UNIX backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Familiarity with End‑of‑Support (EOS) system upgrades and lifecycle management.
  • Strong understanding of audit and compliance requirements, including documentation, SAT, and user access reviews.
  • Proficient in generating system performance and capacity planning reports.
  • Experience coordinating infrastructure changes and working with vendors for database‑related hardware and software. Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
