Job summary

A leading banking institution is seeking a qualified finance professional to join its Edinburgh team. The successful candidate will be responsible for governance and controls in Fair Value, stakeholder engagement, and the development of valuation methodologies. Candidates must have a strong background in Product Control and excellent communication skills. This role offers a hybrid working model and promotes an inclusive environment for all employees.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Accountant or qualified by experience.

In this role, you will:
  • Governance and Controls: Ensure adherence to governance and controls of Fair Value through the review and oversight of Fair Value Adjustments (FVA), Independent Price Verification (IPV), and Prudent Valuation Adjustment (PVA).
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key contact point for the Trading team and other stakeholders, including Front Office, Traded Risk, Operations, IT, and other Finance teams.
  • Valuation Methodology: Lead and participate in the development and enhancement of valuation methodologies, ensuring global alignment and staying informed about industry developments.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote continuous improvement by increasing efficiency and controls through procedural and system changes, and lead transformation initiatives within Product Control.
  • Compliance and Standards: Maintain HSBC internal control standards and ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, and procedures, including timely implementation of audit points.
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Qualified Finance Professional: Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CA, CFA, or FRM) or qualified by experience.
  • Professional Experience: Specific experience in Product Control, Risk, Treasury, or Valuations is necessary. Demonstrable experience in Product Control and knowledge of products, accounting, valuations, controls, systems, models, and markets is essential. Experience with more than one asset class is an advantage.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: A good understanding and appreciation of regulatory requirements and guidelines for valuation is important.
  • Methodology Development: Experience in developing methodology and shaping policy for Independent Price Verification (IPV), Fair Value Adjustments (FVAs) and Prudent Valuation Adjustments (PVA) is a distinct advantage.
  • Team Management: Experience in leading and managing teams to delivery and managing a team is essential, especially across multiple locations, is beneficial.
  • Communication Skills: Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, including the ability to articulate key valuation issues to senior stakeholders in a non-technical manner.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving are required.
  • Relationship Building: Experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels of seniority is important.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Ability to establish and maintain strong collaborative partnerships across HSBC is essential.
