Job summary

Standard Chartered is seeking a Senior Manager (Market Risk) for our London office to oversee independent risk for the Credit Trading business, with a focus on ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading. You will engage with Heads of Trading and senior management, providing credible risk challenge and ensuring compliance with risk governance standards.

You will lead the Market Risk strategy, develop analytics and reporting capabilities, and promote a strong risk culture across the Credit Trading

Qualifications

  • Master degree or equivalent in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in Credit Trading Market Risk, trading, structuring or a closely related risk discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading.
  • Broad understanding of wider Credit Trading product spectrum including Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related activities.
  • Strong technical understanding of market risk measurement, sensitivities, stress testing and risk appetite frameworks.
  • Ability to engage with Heads of Trading and senior management with credible independent challenge.

  • Inform the development and execution of the Market Risk strategy for the Credit Trading business.
  • Provide independent risk input into strategy, portfolio development and material transactions.
  • Anticipate emerging market and liquidity risks and reflect them in risk appetite and stress tests.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and disciplined risk-taking across the business.
  • Communicate and implement Market Risk priorities across the Credit Trading business.
  • Maintain relationships with desk heads and senior management for timely risk challenge.
  • Develop Market Risk analytics and infrastructure to support evolving trading activities.
  • Provide integrated risk assessments across ABS, Credit Flow, Loan Trading and related activities.
  • Support internal, senior management and regulatory risk reporting.
  • Oversee risk identification, limit monitoring, stress testing and risk reporting.

Job Summary

Currently to our office in London we are looking for a Senior Manager (Market Risk) who join our dynamic Team and support us in:

  • To support the integrity of the Group’s risk and return decisions by providing independent Market Risk oversight of the Credit Trading business, with primary responsibility for ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading and broader coverage across Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related trading activities.
  • To ensure that material market risks are appropriately identified, measured, assessed, challenged and controlled in accordance with the Group’s Risk Appetite and Risk Management Framework.
  • To act as a senior Market Risk partner to the Credit Trading business, engaging regularly with Heads of Trading and senior business management, particularly those based in London, on portfolio risks, transactions, business strategy and emerging risk issues.
  • To exercise delegated Market Risk authority and Risk Control responsibilities within the assigned Credit Trading perimeter.
  • To ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies and risk governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
  • Inform the development and execution of the Market Risk strategy for the Credit Trading business, with particular focus on ABS, Credit Flow and Loan Trading.
  • Provide independent risk input into business strategy, portfolio development, new products and material transactions across the wider Credit Trading perimeter.
  • Anticipate emerging market, liquidity, concentration and structural risks and ensure that these are appropriately reflected in risk appetite, limits, stress testing and management actions.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and disciplined risk-taking across the business.
Business
  • Communicate and implement the strategic priorities of the Market Risk function across the Credit Trading business.
  • Maintain an effective and constructive relationship with Heads of Trading, desk heads and senior business management, providing timely and credible challenge on risk-taking, portfolio strategy and material transactions.
  • Develop and maintain the Market Risk capabilities, analytics and infrastructure required to support the evolving Credit Trading business.
  • Provide an integrated assessment of risk across ABS, Credit Flow, Loan Trading, Structured Credit, Repo and Financing, Equity, DCM and related activities, recognising concentrations and linkages across products.
  • Support the delivery of relevant internal, senior management and regulatory risk reporting.
Processes
  • Oversee the effective execution of Market Risk processes within the assigned Credit Trading perimeter, including risk identification, limit monitoring, stress testing, escalation and risk reporting.
  • Ensure that material risk exposures, limit excesses, valuation concerns and emerging risk issues are identified, assessed and escalated on a timely basis.
  • Ensure effective management of operational risks within the Market Risk function and compliance with applicable internal policies, laws and regulations.
  • Continuously improve the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of Market Risk oversight across Credit Trading.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure that new products, material transactions and changes to booking or risk management arrangements are subject to appropriate review and approval.
People & Talent
  • Uphold and reinforce the independence of the Market Risk function from the businesses whose risk-taking activities it oversees.
  • Lead by example and promote the appropriate culture, conduct and values across Market Risk and the wider organisation.
  • Provide subject-matter guidance and support to Market Risk colleagues and contribute to the development of technical capabilities across the team.
  • Build effective working relationships across locations and functions to support consistent risk oversight of the Credit Trading business.

  • Strong business and risk judgement, including the ability to assess complex or material transactions and evaluate risk-adjusted returns.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with, influence and provide credible independent challenge to Heads of Trading, senior business management and control-function stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate complex risk matters clearly and concisely to senior management and governance forums.
  • Experience operating across a geographically dispersed organisation and managing multiple products and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to market events.
  • Relevant academic or professional qualifications in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering or a related discipline.
