Job summary

Contek Recruitment Solutions Ltd is seeking a Machine Shop Manager in South Birmingham to lead precision manufacturing operations. You will manage day-to-day shop activities, drive on-time production, and mentor machinists, operators, and technicians.

You will uphold quality control, optimize processes for OEE, reduce downtime, and apply Lean methods while collaborating with engineering, supply chain, and sales to meet customer requirements within budget.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Machine Shop Manager or similar leadership role in precision manufacturing.
• Strong technical background in CNC turning/milling and conventional machining.
• Knowledge of GD&T and quality management systems.
• Experience applying Lean methodologies (5S, Six Sigma) to improve OEE.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills for building high-performing teams.
• Relevant engineering qualification or time-served practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of the machine shop, ensuring production schedules and output targets are met.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of machinists, operators, and technicians.
• Maintain rigorous quality control standards, minimizing scrap and rework while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
• Optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, and workflows to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and reduce lead times.
• Oversee equipment maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs and upgrades to minimize downtime.
• Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring all health and safety policies are strictly adhered to across the shop floor.
• Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and sales teams to deliver customer requirements on time and within budget.
