Job summary

Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) invites applications for a Senior Lecturer in Construction (Civil Engineering) to lead the BEng(Hons) and contribute to Construction Management and Quantity Surveying teaching.

We seek an innovative civil engineer with expertise in structural engineering or hydraulics, who can attract a diverse student cohort and deliver industry-aligned, non-technical skills alongside core technical content.

Qualifications

  • A Degree plus PhD is required, and/or Chartered Engineer Status with a relevant institution (ICE, IStructE, IHE, CIHT).
  • Experience in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural engineering or hydraulics.
  • Experience using innovative, industry-relevant and engaging teaching techniques focusing on non-technical skills as well as technical content.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the BEng(Hons) and contribute to the teaching of the Construction portfolio (Construction Management and Quantity Surveying).
  • Lead Civil Engineering teaching focusing on structural engineering or hydraulics.
  • Develop and drive strategies to attract and retain a diverse range of people to our courses.

Senior Lecturer in Construction (Civil Engineering)

About the Role

As part of this exciting project, we have recently added to our construction provision by launching two apprenticeships (Level 4 and Level 6) in civil engineering and are looking for an individual with an innovative and disruptive approach to civil engineering and construction education who will develop and drive forward strategies to attract and retain a diverse range of people to our courses. The successful candidate will be committed to leading courses which will develop graduates with the skills and behaviours required by an engineer in the 21st century.

As such we are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer with expertise in Civil Engineering and particularly structural engineering or hydraulics to lead the BEng(Hons) and contribute to the teaching of the Construction portfolio which also includes Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience using innovative, industry relevant and engaging teaching techniques which focus on non-technical skills development as much as technical.
