Overview

Senior Learning Disability Nurse – HMP Garth. HMP Garth is a category B prison in Lancashire with a capacity of ~800 male inmates. The role supports adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour within the criminal justice setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a caseload of adults with learning disabilities, providing comprehensive nursing care and positive non‑aversive behavioural support.
  • Work within the Mental Health Team, responding to operational needs and collaborating with multidisciplinary staff.
  • Carry out person‑centred behavioural assessments, plan and coordinate effective behavioural interventions.
  • Engage with the wider team to provide training, induction, and ongoing support.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Current NMC registration as a Learning Disability Nurse.
  • Proven experience in complex mental health settings (hospital, community, or prison).
  • Strong clinical assessment skills, including risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial interventions, group work, and substance misuse awareness.
