Job description
Senior Learning Designer (Science Curriculum)

The Senior Learning Designer (SLD) for core Science curriculum will be responsible for designing and developing high quality learning experiences, employing learning and human-centred design principles together with new, innovative technologies. As an SLD, you will play a critical role in creating the end-to-end learning process – including contextual needs analysis, design, development and evaluation across grade levels and courses in accordance with required standards. The SLD also partners with members of the product team and other stakeholders to design holistic learning solutions that meet organization and business objectives.


The Role:
The Senior Learning Designer (SLD) will have a passion for working with cutting-edge technologies and their potential in science education. You will also have a strong background working with digital learning materials across diverse educational contexts (public/private, international) in addition to prior experience leading cross-functional curriculum projects. To be successful in your role, you will be required to work flexibly across functions and cultures, using effective communication and productivity tools. You will also be comfortable working with and managing remote freelance teams to deliver projects to deadline.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead the design and sequencing of a coherent Science curriculum across grades/courses, ensuring alignment with relevant standards (e.g., NGSS or other national standards).

  • Create and refine unit plans, performance tasks, and formative/summative assessments.

  • Develop modular units that scale from introduction to mastery, with clear scope and sequence,

  • learning objectives, and rationale.

  • Apply evidence-based instructional strategies (active learning, inquiry-based approaches, phenomenon-driven learning, etc.) to optimize student understanding.

  • Design instructional materials for multiple modalities (teacher-led lessons, lab activities, demonstrations, simulations) and for diverse learners.

  • Create performance-based tasks and rubrics that align to standards and assess conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and scientific reasoning.

  • Develop formative checks and diagnostic tools to monitor progress and inform instruction.

  • Hire, train and manage freelance writers and editors.

  • Collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional project team to meet project objectives.

  • Work independently to achieve project goals and meet challenging deadlines.


Knowledge and Skill requirements:


  • Master’s degree in science education, instructional design, curriculum and assessment or a related field

  • Experience designing and/or implementing science curricula

  • Demonstrated familiarity working with science standards and disciplinary frameworks

  • Strong foundation in instructional design models

  • Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, or phenomenon-driven teaching frameworks.

  • Experience working in editorial project and people management

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to consistently meet deadlines
