Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is seeking a qualified solicitor/CILEX with practice rights or a Barrister to join the Staffordshire Legal Services team. You will handle commercial, procurement and major project matters, provide trusted advice to senior officers and contribute to service improvements within a large local government setting.

Experience in public sector contracts and subsidy control will be essential, with flexible patterns and remote working options to support a healthy work‑life

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor/Fellow of CILEX with practice rights or Barrister.
• Significant experience advising on commercial contracts and public procurement.
• Experience supporting major projects, construction matters and subsidy control issues.
• Ability to advise senior officers and elected members on complex governance and decision-making.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior lawyers or legal support staff.
• Experience contributing to service improvement and development of precedents or procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide complex legal, commercial and procurement advice on a wide range of matters.
• Review, draft and advise on complex agreements including frameworks, construction documents, services contracts, ICT contracts and grant funding agreements.
• Advise on major projects and coordinate advice across the project team.
• Work independently, manage own caseload, and maintain governance and decision-making records.
• Advise on Council Constitution and governance reports.
• Supervise staff and deliver training where necessary while upholding quality standards.
