Job summary

East Cambridgeshire District Council is seeking a Senior Lawyer to provide high-quality legal advice across a varied local government caseload. You will work with officers, elected members and senior leaders, handling conveyancing, leases, planning obligations, contracts and litigation.

You will be admitted as a Solicitor or be a Fellow of CILEx, with strong local government knowledge, and the ability to work independently while delivering pragmatic guidance in a busy authority.

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor or Fellow of CILEx with strong local government law knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to advise a wide range of internal clients.
• Able to prioritise and manage a varied workload independently and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely legal advice to officers, Members and Committees.
• Draft, negotiate and complete legal documents, contracts and property-related documents.
• Advise on planning obligations under section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
• Prepare and conduct civil and criminal litigation and instruct counsel when needed.
• Represent the council at inquiries, tribunals and meetings as required.
• Manage workload effectively in a busy local authority environment.
• Contribute to policy development and service improvements within Legal Services.
