The role

As we continue to invest in and develop Scotland’s electricity transmission network, SSEN Transmission has opportunities for experienced Senior Land Managers to join our team and support a portfolio of major infrastructure projects across Scotland.

You’ll play a key role in securing and managing the land and property rights needed to develop and deliver our projects. Working across complex, high-profile programmes, you’ll combine land strategy, negotiation and stakeholder engagement with the use of statutory processes where required.

This is an opportunity to work on nationally significant infrastructure, building trusted relationships with landowners, communities and stakeholders while helping us deliver the network needed for Scotland’s energy future.

You will
  • Lead the land and property activity for major infrastructure projects, securing and maintaining the rights needed to support successful project delivery.
  • Develop and deliver effective land assembly strategies, using negotiated agreements and statutory powers, including necessary wayleaves and compulsory purchase orders, where required.
  • Lead engagement and negotiations with landowners, tenants and their representatives, building positive relationships and working towards fair and practical outcomes.
  • Coordinate land referencing, property data and input from multiple disciplines to support statutory applications and wider project requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, local authorities, the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit, Forestry and Land Scotland and planning authorities.
You have
  • Strong knowledge of Scottish landownership and experience of dealing with complex land and property matters.
  • In-depth knowledge of land and property rights, including wayleaves, servitudes and land acquisition.
  • A good working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Electricity Act 1989, Land Compensation Act 1973 and Compulsory Purchase Act 1965.
  • An understanding of energy networks, infrastructure or another relevant regulated environment, and how land requirements contribute to successful project delivery.
  • Membership of the Rural Professional Group of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), or a commitment to working towards relevant professional membership.
