Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Senior Land Consultant to secure land, access, coordinate surveys and manage stakeholder relationships across major infrastructure projects in the UK and Ireland.

This hybrid role in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Perth involves leading audits of land referencing documentation, advising clients on land acquisition risks, and ensuring compliance with statutory processes while developing teams and delivering best‑value services.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Geography, Land/Estate Management, Agriculture or a related discipline.
• Experience delivering land referencing, land access, and landowner engagement on major infrastructure projects.
• Negotiating with landowners and knowledge of wayleaves, easements and servitudes.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams across Ireland and/or UK.
• Track record in reducing land risk and advising on land matters throughout project lifecycle.
• Experience developing orders or consents and knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Experience in infrastructure development schemes (energy, highways, rail, water, aviation).
• Excellent interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills.
• Knowledge of urban or rural environment and farming practices desirable.
• Professional body membership or chartership advantageous.
• Ability to travel to various sites and locations as a necessary function.

Responsibilities

• Secure land access and coordinate surveys with stakeholders.
• Lead audits and QA of land referencing docs.
• Drive integration of land requirements with engineering and planning.
• Provide senior‑level advice to clients on land acquisition risks.
• Ensure compliance with statutory processes and legal obligations.
• Resolve disputes diplomatically and escalate when needed.
• Contribute to commercial strategy and risk management.
• Establish training programmes and succession planning within the Land team.
• People management and team leadership.
• Engage with landowners and communities to maintain relationships.
• Arrange and coordinate land surveys, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Support junior members with technical training and career development.
• Negotiate Heads of Terms to secure land for projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across UK and Ireland.
• Travel across UK/Ireland and potentially to the Global Capability Centre in India.
