Job summary

WSP is seeking an experienced land referencing and land access specialist to join our team in the Greater London area. You will support delivery of land access for major infrastructure projects, identify landowner interests, and liaise with stakeholders to secure access for surveys.

The role requires collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams, a track record in reducing land risk, and experience with orders and consents. Travel to various sites will be necessary as part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Geography, Land/Estate Management, Agriculture or a relevant discipline.
  • Experience delivering land referencing, land access, landowner engagement and statutory processes on major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams across Ireland and/or UK.
  • Proven ability to reduce land risk and advise on land matters across project lifecycles.
  • Experience of orders, consents and land rights acquisition; knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Experience with infrastructure development schemes in energy, highways, rail, water or aviation sectors.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites/locations.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of land referencing, land access, landowner engagement and statutory processes.
  • Identify landowners and parties with land interests via registry information.
  • Liaise with landowners, land agents, legal representatives, planning authorities and clients.
  • Lead audits and QA reviews of land referencing documentation and processes.
  • Provide senior-level advice on land acquisition risks and opportunities to clients and boards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory processes and data security/privacy obligations.
  • Manage junior team members and contribute to CPD-based Land Academy training.
  • Develop efficient working practices and contribute to business strategy and growth.

  • Your work will support our teams in the delivery of land referencing, land access, landowner & stakeholder engagement and statutory processes
  • Identification of landowners, occupiers and other parties that hold an interest in land, through interpretation and research of the appropriate land registry information
  • Liaising with landowners, land agents, legal representatives, planning authorities, stakeholders, contractors and clients.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams to secure access to land for surveys, whether by agreement or through statutory mechanisms
  • Ideally have experience of managing land referencing and land access projects
  • Lead audits and quality assurance reviews of land referencing documentation and processes
  • Providesenior-level advice to clients and project boards on land acquisition risks and opportunities
  • Oversee compliance with statutory processes and ensure projects meet regulatory and legal obligations, including those relating to data security and privacy
  • Resolve disputes and elevate sensitive issues with diplomacy and authority
  • Contribute to commercial strategy and risk management for land-related contracts
  • Establish training programmes and succession planning within the Land team
  • People management and team leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with landowners, communities, and stakeholders
  • Consulting with landowners to explain proposed scheme, programme, discuss potential impacts and ensureaccurateconsultation notes are taken and uploaded to our consultation database
  • Ensuring that WSP H&S procedures are adhered to for all site work
  • Management of junior members of Land team providing support and technical trainingby contributing to and participating in our CPD-accredited Land Academy
  • Using statutory powers and other available mechanisms toacquireland
  • Preparation and quality assuranceof technical documents in relation to the identification of land interests and rights, negotiation of access to land for surveys,consentsand acquisition of land rights
  • Develop efficient working practices and promote innovation in the team to provide industry-leading, best-value services to our clients
  • Contribute to business development and the delivery of the business strategy
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
  • Degree or equivalent experience inGeography, Land/EstateManagement, Agriculture or a relevant discipline
  • Worked to deliver land referencing, land access, landowner engagement services and statutory processes on major infrastructure projects
  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams across a range of sectors and locations across Ireland and/or UK
  • Demonstrable experience of reducing land risk for clients and advising them on land related matters throughout all stages of a project lifecycle
  • Proventrack record of the development of Orders or equivalent and/or acquisition of consents and interests in land, and knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Experience of infrastructure development schemes, particularly in the energy, highways, rail, water and/or aviation sectors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with colleagues, landowners and client at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Knowledge of the urban and/or rural environment and farming practices would be desirable
  • Chartership or membership or a professional body would be advantageous
  • The ability to travel effectively to various sites/locations is a necessary function of this role.
