Overview

Job Description

The Role: As the Senior Laboratory Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest quality standards and maintaining ISO 17025:2017 accreditation. In this leadership position, you will oversee, organise, and plan laboratory activities, coordinating technicians to meet performance targets and achieve agreed turnaround times. You will perform microbiological and chemical analyses of samples with precision and excellence, adhering to GQCLP, ISO 17025:2017, and cGMP standards.

Responsibilities
  • Day to day coordination of the laboratory, ensuring resources and materials are available to meet agreed turnaround times and performance targets.
  • Ensure all staff working in the laboratory are appropriately trained and adhere to health & safety rules and work procedures.
  • Ensure all planned laboratory activities are documented and completed on time, and to schedule, including environmental monitoring, proficiency testing, and cleaning.
  • Co-ordinate equipment service, maintenance and calibration, and update documentation as necessary.
  • Writing, reviewing, and approving laboratory documents as required.
  • Lead investigations of non-conforming work and out of specification test results.
  • Processing and trending of laboratory data, to be presented at review meetings and to senior management, as required.
  • Registration and analysis of test samples, including supporting activities e.g. preparation and quality control of culture media.
  • Maintain high laboratory standards, levels cleanliness and actively contribute to the successful operation of the laboratory.
  • Escalate issues to management as necessary.
  • Participate in laboratory projects, as required by the business.
Your Profile

Education and Experience

  • GCSE, or equivalent, in English, Maths, and Science.
  • Microbiology related degree or similar science-related subject or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years’ laboratory experience including leading and motivating a team of technicians.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Organisation & Planning – Coordinating and motivating a team of technicians and scheduling laboratory activities in order to meet performance and quality targets.
  • Communication – Be able to represent the laboratory at meetings and present laboratory data in a concise and informative manner. Effectively communicate plans and schedules to the technicians so they understand their day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Computer skills – competent user of Microsoft Office suite. Experience of LIMS, data processing & trending, and statistical software desirable.
  • Microbiological analysis skills – aseptic technique, pipetting, creating serial dilutions, sample plating, plate reading, preparation of culture media
