Job summary

Hackajob Ltd in Leeds is seeking a strong Kotlin/JVM engineer to design and deliver elegant backend services. You will write clean code, build new APIs, and help scale existing systems within a small, collaborative team.

The role requires solid database experience (relational, NoSQL a bonus), test automation, and the ability to rapidly understand complex financial domains. Hybrid work includes three in-office days per week or fully remote options across the UK.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial Kotlin or JVM-based engineering experience.
• Ability to write simple, clean code.
• Experience and understanding of relational databases; NoSQL is a bonus.
• Ability to understand complex financial business domains quickly.
• Understanding of software architectures and abstraction.
• Ability to write comprehensive automated tests at all levels.
• Experience with Kanban preferred but not essential.

Job description

Salary: £61,000 - 101,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong commercial Kotlin or JVM-based engineering experience, with willingness to work with Kotlin
• Ability to write simple, clean code
• Experience and understanding of databases; relational databases are a must, and NoSQL would be nice too
• Ability to quickly understand complex financial business domains
• Ability to understand different software architectures rapidly
• Understanding of abstraction and interpolation
• Ability to write comprehensive automated tests at all levels of the pyramid
• Understanding of the Kanban agile methodology is preferred, but not essential
• Ability to get along with others and build relationships
• Willingness to continually learn, improve, and collaborate
• Ability to solve problems independently and know when to ask peers for help
• Rational thinking and awareness of the reasons behind work approaches
• Pragmatic mindset with the ability to weigh trade-offs between code quality and delivery
