Additional Resources Recruitment is seeking a Senior Software Developer in Cheltenham to own high-performance backend systems. You will design and implement Java and C++ services, build APIs, microservices, and distributed applications in Linux environments.

Lead technical design, mentor engineers, contribute to architecture, and support CI/CD, DevSecOps practices. The role requires 5+ years of experience, strong problem solving, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience.
• Strong Java and/or C++ development skills.
• Experience in Linux environments.
• Backend applications, APIs and distributed systems experience.
• Understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with multithreading and concurrent development.
• CI/CD experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or Azure DevOps.

We’re recruiting an experienced Senior Software Developer to join an innovative engineering team, developing high-performance backend software solutions using Java and C++ within Linux environments.

This is a senior-level position offering the opportunity to take technical ownership, contribute to architecture and technical strategy, and mentor other developers while working on complex, enterprise-scale systems.

What you’ll be doing:

• Designing and developing high-performance backend applications using Java and C++
• Building APIs, microservices and distributed applications
• Leading the technical design and implementation of software components and services
• Developing multithreaded and concurrent applications
• Troubleshooting and optimising software performance within Linux environments
• Conducting code reviews and maintaining high engineering standards
• Supporting architectural decisions and technical roadmaps
• Containerising applications using Docker
• Contributing to CI/CD and DevSecOps practices
• Mentoring junior and mid-level software engineers
• Working closely with customers and internal stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions

What we’re looking for:

• 5+ years’ commercial software development experience
• Strong Java and/or C++ development skills
• Strong experience working within Linux environments
• Backend applications, APIs and distributed systems experience
• Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and OOP
• Experience with multithreading and concurrent development
• Relational and/or NoSQL database experience
• Docker/containerisation knowledge
• CI/CD experience – Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD or Azure DevOps
• Strong debugging, performance analysis and problem-solving skills
• Experience working within Agile development environments

• Salary up to £80,000
• 25 days’ annual leave + bank holidays
