Senior Java/Kotlin Engineer - Data-Driven Banking Reports

Job summary

JUXT is seeking a senior engineer for our embedded team in Prime Brokerage. You will build data-intensive systems at scale, owning regulatory and client reporting work and modernising systems that deliver data feeds to clients and downstream systems across the bank.

You will work across Kotlin and Java applications, with large databases and messaging at scale, and focus on performance, correctness, and platform modernisation in a regulated banking environment.

Qualifications

• Strong Java and Kotlin skills; C# exposure is a plus.
• Heavy database experience: expert SQL Server modelling and performance analysis.
• MongoDB experience with documents, collections, and aggregation.
• Messaging and streaming: Kafka or similar.
• Building and consuming REST APIs and RPC services.
• Containers and orchestration with OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Observability with ELK, OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus.
• Automated testing: integration tests and end-to-end testing.
• Experience on large banking/reporting systems and understanding complex domains.
• Comfortable in a large regulated bank with change control and security reviews.
• Experience with BigData cloud tech (Starburst/Trino, Snowflake).
• Batch/scheduled workloads at scale; modernising legacy systems incrementally.
• Using AI coding assistants (Copilot) in development workflows.

Responsibilities

• Drive delivery of the regulatory and client reporting workstream with deadlines.
• Build and maintain data transformation pipelines between SQL Server, MongoDB, Kafka/EMS, and downstream consumers.
• Engage with upstream data providers, downstream consumers, and SMEs to understand requirements.
• Modernise the stack by transforming SQL Server stored procedures into Kotlin services.
• Investigate database performance and correctness, including tuning logical vs physical reads.
• Support platform modernisation, migrating scheduling from Autosys to Kubernetes/OpenShift.
