Overview

An academic institution in Oxford is seeking a Senior IT Officer to play a key role in supporting and developing its IT and audio-visual infrastructure. The post holder will provide professional, customer-focused support to staff, students, and guests, and will assist in maintaining secure, reliable, and innovative IT services across teaching, research, and events.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver second-line IT and AV support and troubleshoot system and network issues.
  • Design, commission, and maintain Windows Server environments and related services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy).
  • Configure and manage network infrastructure, firewalls, and virtualisation platforms (e.g. Hyper-V).
  • Contribute to IT security improvements and promote best practices.
  • Provide guidance and training in the use of AV systems for meetings, lectures, and events.
  • Deputise for the IT Manager when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong experience with Windows Server administration and networking (VLANs, switches, firewalls).
  • Knowledge of storage solutions and virtualisation technologies.
  • Scripting experience (e.g. PowerShell).
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, service-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with Linux systems, Office 365 administration, SQL, and web or CMS technologies.
  • Experience with AV systems and video conferencing (Teams/Zoom).
  • Previous experience in an academic or similar environment.
