Company:
Company: The Devonshire Group
Salary: up to £40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
The Devonshire Group comprises the Devonshire family interests, charities and businesses throughout the UK and Ireland, including Chatsworth in Derbyshire, the Bolton Abbey Estate in North Yorkshire, the Lismore Estate in County Waterford, and the Compton Estate in Sussex.
Across our estates and businesses, we operate visitor attractions, shops, restaurants and luxury accommodation, alongside tenanted residential and commercial property, farming and forestry enterprises, and a significant property development pipeline. We employ around 1,400 colleagues across more than 65,000 acres.
We are committed to benefitting heritage, people and a shared future, preserving and enhancing our heritage assets, supporting our communities, and leading by example in how we do things.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Devonshire Group as our Senior Integration & Automation Engineer, taking a leading hands‑on role in connecting and modernising the business systems that keep a complex, multi‑site organisation running.
Working alongside the Solutions Delivery & Automation Lead, you will design and deliver the integrations, data flows and automated processes that join up our finance, retail, hospitality, property and operational systems. You will also take our Power Platform estate from ad‑hoc solutions to a governed, documented and dependable environment that the whole Group can rely on.
This is a Microsoft‑centred engineering role and the senior technical delivery capability in a small IT team. Where the Lead sets architecture and direction, you will own delivery - designing the solution, building it, integrating it, supporting it and reviewing the work of others. In time you will deputise for the Lead on technical matters, and there is real scope to shape how we work as the function grows.
This is a full‑time role working five days a week from either the Chatsworth Estate Office, near Edensor, Derbyshire or from Bolton Abbey, near Skipton, Yorkshire (with at least one day a week working from the Derbyshire office), depending on your location. Hybrid working will be available with flexibility to meet business needs. There will be some travel to other Devonshire Group locations.
You’ll take pride in systems that work reliably for years rather than solutions that demo well. You’ll enjoy untangling how things currently work, spotting where an integration will fail before it does, and leaving behind something a colleague could pick up and support without you.
You’ll be comfortable working with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders, able to explain a constraint to someone who doesn’t want to hear it and keep the relationship intact. You’ll bring a genuine interest in developing others, and the confidence to review a colleague’s design and improve it. You’ll also be realistic about the shape of our business - it is seasonal, our hospitality and retail systems matter most at exactly the times other people are on holiday, and some of what you inherit will need untangling before it can be improved.
You’ll join a supportive and friendly IT team within a values‑led organisation that genuinely cares about its people, with unusual variety in the work - farming and forestry, visitor attractions, hospitality and luxury accommodation, tenanted property and a significant development pipeline, across four estates in two countries. We’ll support your development with certification and training, and this role offers a clear path towards broader technical leadership as the function grows.
