Job summary

An international engineering firm is seeking a Senior Instrumentation / Electrical Design Engineer to develop designs for petrochemical projects. This role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 7-10+ years of experience, and standards compliance with UK or equivalent. Responsibilities include designing instrumentation and electrical systems, participating in safety studies, and supporting plant commissioning. Applicants must be able to travel as needed.

Qualifications

Overview

The ECI Group has an immediate need for an experienced and knowledgeable Senior Instrumentation / Electrical Design Engineer to develop control and instrumentation designs for our petrochemical (including LDPE) and advanced recycling business lines. This position can be filled in any of our Manchester England, Baton Rouge Louisiana or Shanghai China offices.

Essential Instrumentation Job Functions
  • Coordinate and execute instrumentation design and engineering deliverables with instrument designer(s) and/or junior engineer(s).
  • Read and develop Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Prepare instrumentation equipment specification and construction documents including network communication architectural diagrams, loop diagrams, SIS and DCS Cause & Effect and Binary Logic diagrams, control panel details, junction box wiring diagrams, instrument installation details, instrument datasheets, instrument calculations, instrument plot plans, control room design, etc.
  • Participate in HAZOP/LOPA/SIL studies.
Essential Electrical Job Functions
  • Coordinate and execute Electrical design and engineering deliverables with Electrical designer(s) and junior engineer(s).
  • Design plant power distribution and prepare one–line diagrams, schematic diagrams, equipment layouts, lighting, grounding, installation details, electrical equipment specifications such as power panels, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, substations, motors, etc.
  • Model and conduct power systems analysis (short circuit, load flow, protective relay coordination and arc flash analysis).
Combined Job Functions
  • Develop detailed design documents for new assignments which may involve essential and creative thinking for unusual or difficult problems.
  • Review and evaluate equipment vendor information and determine suitability for specific project applications.
  • Participate in FAT and SAT activities when requested.
  • Participate in field investigations and provide construction support.
  • Respond to field information requests.
  • Review supplier technical quotes and prepare technical bid analysis.
  • Update inquiry documents to order.
  • Attend/run post order kick–off meetings.
  • Review supplier design documents and coordinate with equipment supplier.
  • Travel to witness inspections.
  • Attend kick–off meetings or client sites as required.
Background / Profile Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Chartered Engineer (UK) or Licensed Professional Electrical or Control Systems Engineer in Louisiana and Texas (US).
  • 7–10+ years of related experience in engineering design of oil & gas, petrochemical and/or plastics plants.
  • Strong preference for applicants with in–depth polyolefin plant experience, including design and operational roles.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to off–site locations and/or accept client site assignments when required.
  • Detail–oriented with strong analytical skills.
  • General understanding of the cradle–to–grave workflow for an EPC Project, interdepartmental dependencies, and TIC considerations.
  • Must be capable of working as part of a close–knit small core team as well as being self–reliant with the confidence to make decisions acting on own initiative.
  • Comfortable with occasional opportunities for international travel.
