Senior Infrastructure Engineer (3rd Line) | Altrincham | £70k

About the Role

My client are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior or Principal Infrastructure Engineer to join their infrastructure team. This role requires a true subject matter expert – someone colleagues turn to when the most complex technical issues arise. You will provide advanced troubleshooting, design input, and escalation support across the infrastructure stack, ensuring high availability, security, and performance of the systems.

The core focus of the role will be around VMware, Active Directory, Windows & On‑Prem stuff.

Skills Needed

• Expert knowledge of Windows Server and VMware virtualisation
• Windows Server & Active Directory: Deep understanding of AD internals, authentication protocols, and directory services.
• Virtualisation: Expert knowledge of VMware vSphere (vCenter, ESXi, clustering, storage, networking).
• Linux Administration: Strong command‑line expertise, system hardening, and cross‑platform integration.
• Networking: In‑depth TCP/IP knowledge, subnetting, routing, switching, and performance analysis. They use Cisco
• Storage & Backup: RAID design, SAN/NAS, vSAN, snapshot strategies, backup/restore principles.
• Scripting & Automation
• Strong troubleshooting ability, able to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and logical manner.

This role would not suit someone too DevOps or Cloud focused. But be better suited to an expert in on‑prem. And a wizard with fixing deep technical issues on files, networking, AD, VMs and Exchange.
