Job description

We're working with a leading client in the defence sector seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join their team in Reading on a 4-month contract.

Candidates must hold active SC Clearance Required

Location: Reading / Hybrid

Contract: 4 Months (Inside IR35)

The Role

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll act as the technical authority across one or more platform engineering domains - such as cloud, virtualisation, automation, networking, or cyber tooling. You'll design and implement secure platforms across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments, driving architecture, delivery, and innovation.

You'll also provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and ensure delivery excellence across projects.

Key Skills & Experience

Essential

• Strong background with Windows and Linux operating systems
• Virtualisation (VMware, Hyper‑V) and containerisation (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Solid understanding of networking (TCP / IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
• Automation & Scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
• Knowledge of cyber security controls and accreditation frameworks
• Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle

Desirable

• Cloud expertise (AWS, Azure) & Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience with enterprise integrations (Active Directory, PKI, SIEM, monitoring)
• Familiarity with DevSecOps tools and CI / CD pipelines
• Relevant industry certifications (VMware, AWS, Microsoft, Kubernetes, etc.)
