Job summary

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is seeking a Senior Improvement Advisor to lead national improvement and implementation programmes across Scotland. You will oversee scoping, design and delivery within the Perinatal, Paediatric and Acute Adult Care portfolio and collaborate with teams, partners and lived-experience representatives.

£65,125 - £70,303 (Band 8A)

Full time (36 hours per week)

Edinburgh or Glasgow – hybrid working will apply for the foreseeable future (all roles require routine travel for in-person meetings, site visits, workshops and events)

Healthcare Improvement Scotland is the national improvement agency for health and social care in Scotland. We are seeking to recruit a senior improvement advisor to lead the scoping, design and delivery of national improvement and implementation programmes.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Medical and Safety Directorate’s Perinatal, Paediatric and Acute Adult Care portfolio.

The portfolio is a component of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme (SPSP) and delivers a range of programmes currently including;

• SPSP Adults in Hospital, which aims to improve outcomes and experience for adults in hospital.
• SPSP Paediatric, which engages with teams delivering paediatric inpatient care to improve outcomes for children, young people and families.
• SPSP Perinatal and the developing Acute Perinatal Improvement Programme, which aim to improve outcomes and experiences of women, birthing people, babies and families.
• Focus on Frailty, which aims to improve the experience of and access to person centred, coordinated health and social care services for people living with, or at risk of, frailty.

The work is innovative and complex. The postholder will be responsible for delivering specific work programmes, using their expertise in leadership, improvement, and programme management. The role requires pace, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complexity. The postholder will work collaboratively and be a proactive problem-solver.

The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience of leading national improvement programmes and possess an improvement related qualification. They will be skilled in the data and measurement for improvement, engaging people with lived and living experience, and experienced in bringing together diverse groups to progress improvement on priority areas in health and social care. Knowledge or experience of health and social care within an acute hospital setting is desirable.

We are looking for people educated to master’s degree level in a relevant subject or with equivalent knowledge and experience in improving health and social care services.
