Job Title: Senior Hydrologist

Location: Wigan

Hybrid: Flexible / Hybrid

Position Summary

We are recruiting an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join a leading environmental consultancy in Wigan. This is an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across flood risk, drainage, and water resources, supporting both private and public sector clients. You'll play a key role in delivering technically robust solutions while mentoring junior staff and contributing to business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Flood Risk Assessments, sustainable drainage strategies (SuDS), and hydrological modelling.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, assessments, and recommendations for planning and development projects.
  • Support project delivery from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation.
  • Liaise with clients, local authorities, and statutory bodies, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and cost-effective.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing expertise across the team.
  • Stay current with industry standards, guidance, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Degree (BSc / BEng) in Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable.
  • Chartered status or working toward Chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, IES, IEMA, GeolSoc).
  • Minimum 3-5 years' professional experience in flood risk and drainage projects.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modelling software (e.g., FEH, WinFAP FEH, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, HEC-RAS) and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and mentoring skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
