Job description

Aberdeen | Hybrid | Permanent | Full or Part Time (minimum 4 days per week)
Up to £42,000 per annum + excellent benefits
Ready to take your HR career in a new direction?

Are you an experienced HR professional who enjoys solving problems, building relationships and providing practical, commercial advice?

Perhaps you’ve built your career in an internal HR role and are now ready to experience the variety and challenge of consultancy. Or maybe you’re already working in HR consultancy and are looking for a growing business where you can make a real impact and have plenty of opportunity to develop.

If so, this could be the opportunity for you.

We’re looking for a Senior HR Consultant to join our friendly and ambitious client. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, giving you the opportunity to work with a diverse portfolio of organisations across a range of sectors and at different stages of their growth journey.

About the organisation

Our client is a leading professional services firm operating across the UK, Ireland and the USA, with more than 1,000 employees.

The organisation provides a broad range of professional services to individuals, family businesses and organisations, including audit, tax, corporate finance, payroll, people consultancy and wealth management.

Its team comprises more than 60 HR, Health & Safety and Talent Development specialists working across locations throughout the UK. The team partners with organisations ranging from start-ups and established SMEs to scaling businesses and larger organisations.

The focus is on building strong, long-term relationships and providing practical, tailored advice that helps clients attract, retain and develop their people while creating better workplaces.

The organisation places a strong emphasis on its people, investing in professional development, training, qualifications and opportunities to progress.

The opportunity

As a Senior HR Consultant, you’ll become a trusted adviser to a portfolio of organisations, providing practical and commercially focused HR support.

You’ll need to be comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Every client is different, so you’ll need to adapt your approach to different business environments, cultures and challenges.

Your role will include:

  • Providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice on day-to-day HR and employment matters, with a particular focus on employee relations.
  • Building strong, trusted relationships with clients and becoming a valued extension of their team.
  • Working with organisations to review and improve their existing HR practices, processes and systems.
  • Recommending and helping to implement practical HR solutions, tools and improvements that support business growth.
  • Advising managers and leadership teams on the practical application of HR policies and best practice.
  • Supporting clients with recruitment, onboarding, development and management of their people.
  • Helping organisations create inclusive, welcoming and values-led workplace cultures.
  • Supporting and mentoring colleagues, acting as a point of contact for HR queries and management advice.
  • Preparing documentation to support processes including onboarding, probation, appraisals, absence management, employee relations, benefits, contracts and offboarding.
  • Creating, reviewing and refreshing HR templates, toolkits and documentation.
  • Contributing to the wider development of the People Consulting service and sharing knowledge with colleagues.

This is a role where you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in much more than the responsibilities listed above. As the team continues to grow, there will be opportunities to develop your consultancy expertise, mentor others and take on additional responsibilities.

What we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who combines strong HR knowledge with a genuine passion for working with people and businesses.

You’ll ideally have:

  • At least 4 years' experience working across HR, employee relations and employment legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practice and the ability to turn that knowledge into clear, practical advice.
  • Experience managing a broad range of employee relations matters.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and without unnecessary jargon.
  • Strong questioning and consulting skills, allowing you to understand the real issue before recommending a solution.
  • A commercial, flexible and client-focused approach.
  • The ability to quickly build trust, rapport and confidence with clients and colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A solutions-focused and forward-thinking mindset, with a genuine interest in improving HR processes and practices.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • The confidence and willingness to travel to office locations and client sites as required.

You should hold a Level 7 Advanced CIPD qualification (or equivalent), or be willing to work towards achieving this.

Experience of HR system implementation would be an advantage.

A full driving licence and access to a car are essential, as regular travel to client sites will be required.
